downloadIf you are writing a tech blog such as this one you will find yourself writing tutorials. And nothing goes better with a tutorial than a video. This is where most blog writers stop, because they start thinking: Making a video is hard and time-consuming, and I don’t have the money for the software. Well now you don’t need money for the software, CamStudio is a open source screen capture program. It has all of the features you need to make a decent  video tutorial. Sure it may not have all the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done well. Also its very simple to use so “its too hard” is no longer an excuse. Yes, it still is hard to make a good tutorial and you need a lot of patience but the extra content quality is worth it. Plus this attracts more users. So lets take a short look at this program.

I said its easy to use and by this I mean everything is very straight forward. It looks like a regular player with all the standard buttons (Stop, Play, record ,etc), it also has a menu at the top where you can choose more advanced options, such as audio input, mouse highlight, etc. Here are a few pic to go along with this.

Then the fun part starts, recording. Simply click the button and your good. After that, when you press stop, it will ask you where to save the file. Once you select your location is will save you file as an .avi this format is supported by youtube and many others. Then upload and your done! It also allows you to convert your .avi files to .swf (flash files)

All this makes for a perfect tutorial. So, in conclusion I think that you should make tutorials when needed. The download button will automatically take you to the download page for CamStudio.
