How to save your Computer

Ok most of us know that computers get old and as they get old you will find that they will work so slow you just want to take your computer and throw it out the window.  This is perfectly normal. However there are things you can do to make that moment only happen in the very far future. I do these roughly once  every 6 months to a year.

1)First of all clear your Desktop, although this will not add much performance it will help free some space (this is especially true if you work with code a lot). On occasion you will store a folder with say 10 files in it. But after a while you may have 20 folders with a total amount of 200 file just sitting around. Depending on the file this can eat up disk space and make you computer un-organized. I was able to free up 4GB of space by getting rid of these folder.

2)Programs that you don’t use must be removed immediately. This is for you sakes as well as the computer’s, annoying stuff such as toolbars that came with the installation of yahoo messenger or something along the lines of that can tick you off and eat up space that you can use to browse. Otherwise, make sure to erase games that you don’t play, because the truth is, games are the programs that will eat the most amount of space up. Also don’t forget about outdated programs and stuff you don’t use anymore.

3)Defrag your computer. This is a basic step that will make your computer run faster. Basically it makes your computer re-arrange where you files are stored in such a way that they are easier to find for the computer. It doesn’t actually move the files though so don’t worry, just de-frag.Note however that de-fraging can take a a few good hours or even a day depending on your computer.

4)Lastly, run a full anti-virus scan along with a boot time scan. This will help get rid of any malware, adwear, or viruses that may be slowly killing your computer.

These are basic steps that you can follow to keep your computer running for a longer time. Lastly I will add the the one thing that can cure any virus and make your computer run almost as if it was new. This however should only be done when you are seriously in trouble.

5) Nuke your drive.  This pretty much kills every living byte out of your computers Hard Drive. It is done by booting the system recovery CD’s that usually come with your system. follow through with the on screen steps and you will get a fresh new start with you computer.

I hope this helps!
