Mass Effect

Well, if you are a RPG fan and you did not play this game then shame on you. Mass Effect (though an older game) is a masterpiece, the story, the characters, the gameplay, the graphics, EVERYTHING about it is simply perfect. Bioware has made an amazing game which is well worth the $20, Mass Effect 2 also looks amazing, but sadly I don’t have the high end computer needed to play it yet, and I don’t like playing RPG’s on the 360. Anyways, lets move on to some of the main elements of the game: Story, Gameplay, and Character.
Well, the story is absolutely breath taking, every detail is payed attention to. In fact because of the many different choices you get to make, it really creates a more powerful and rich experience. All the side quests although they are basically the same in what you do in general, they are wrapped in a very well scripted and carried out story. The background story for the characters too are all very well crafted. Indeed this is Bioware at its best. If you don’t care about anything else but the story I assure you you will not be disappointed.
The gameplay is fairly smooth although, it is worth mentioning that Bioware has removed all traces of a turn based combat system. Combat is now in a third person shooter style, personally I think this makes this game a whole lot more realistic. I am willing to say that gameplay is this game’s weak point. The game can not keep a steady frame rate to save its life. Also, the multi-purpose car/tank thing you will be driving will irritate you quite a bit, since you cannot move the turret up and down, and maneuvering can sometimes be annoying. When the IA gets in your way and they won’t move, it may also cause some frustration >:( However these are only minor set backs to an otherwise perfect game.
The character that you get to build is semi-done for you. You HAVE to play as _________ Shepard, and somehow get involved with the space marines but beyond that you are the boss, everything from slightly adjusting the skin color to drastically changing the very skeletal structure (face mostly) of your character. Your own background story will start to play into the game itself which I think is a great feature. All in all I have no real problems with character creation and such.
Oh, and regarding the number gameplay hours; the game itself took me roughly 20h to finish, which is ok, in my book, mind you I like to take things slower, so you could probably finish it faster. I feel that the story might indeed have felt milked if it was any longer, none the less you will cherish every second of this story, trust me.
So, is this worth the $20? YES! The experience and the features of the story itself are so good I would have gladly payed even $40 for it. I highly recommend this game to anyone. Especially RPG fans. So if you don’t own it yet; run to your local game store and get it. NOW! or alternatively click the buy now button to go to the steam page for the game.
